After 2 long years I'd forgotten how much fun it was going on tour with one Kevin T Henley...yes after only an hour into our 2019 adventure we'd experienced 4 "Oh Shit" moments.
The first was when Kev thought he'd left his ticket behind. The 2nd only minor as H took on a Diamond Creek school zone at twice the limit before slamming on his brakes ! The 3rd was a little more worrying when H realised that he'd not given his brother Pete the car keys as Pete drove off from Tulla (keyless ignition) !
It was The 4th incident though that had us most concerned when we attempted to use the "Schemozle" that was Supposedly Air NZ's automated baggage check in process !
While the system was going into meltdown because of a software issue with more bags coming out of the conveyor than actually going in we were trying to work out how to peel and where to place our stupid baggage stickers ,!
Finally an exceedingly helpful and effeminate staff member bounced over smiling suggesting that we could display the stickers on our chests - Henley's look said it all ... and no we did not hang round to get his phone number !
The meltdown didn't give us much confidence with our soon to depart flight taking a circular route looking pretty damned close to nothing except an Ocean void and Antartica.
Thankfully the first leg a 3 & 1/2 flight to Auckland was a breeze. At Auckland airport Kev took on an entirely different view of persons from the sub continent (read Indians) when he scored a free cup of coffee after pleading poor & ignorant to the use of credit cards !
The 12 hour jammed packed flight to BA that although the usual "sardine can style" uncomfortable, was pretty uneventful other than for one moment when our Air NZ male flight attendant had a breakdown after the 10th person in a row asked for a non existent beef meal (they'd run out)
With bugger all sleep we finally crossed an impressive Chilean landscape of volcanoes and lakes !
Arrival BA was only 2hrs later where we jumped into a waiting car for our first not too impressed look at this massive sprawling city. Hopefully after a good nights rest tomorrow will provide a different perspective !
Sent from my iPad,
Two vast countries encompassing the Andes Mtns, ancient rain forests, emerald lakes, deserts & volcanoes as well as timeless cultures ! Our adventure starts with a 600km cycle of the Patagonia Lakes region before moving on to the stunning Puerto Montt Glacier, El Chalten and its incredible Mtn scenery, Iguazo Falls one of the wonders of the world and the high altitude painted hills of Salta in Nthn Argentina. What an adventure awaits !
